Week Three - Day Five: Happy Valentine's Day!

Love is in the air! Can you feel it?

Let me share a couple if things that I found and just love. Free cookbooks on Amazon! The first one is Low Carb Diet for Beginners: Essential Low Carb Recipes to Start Losing Weight, and as of 2/13/14 it was free. If you're more into the Paleo then try 40 Top Paleo Recipes - Quick and Easy Paleo Diet Recipes For Weight Loss & Optimum Health (Paleolithic Diet Cookbook). It was free too, as of the 13th.  I'm very excited to peruse both of these books to glean more low carb options for meals.

It is really difficult to cook for just one person. I almost never make myself a "meal." I feel like I end up grazing all day long. But having had gastric bypass it is also difficult to eat an entire meal, as well. So I need to balance that somehow. Any suggestions?

Being as I just had a bout with the 24 hour flu, I re-discovered Propel Water in Peach flavor! They used to make it, then changed it to Mango Peach, and now they are back to just Peach. Happy girl here! I'm going to have to stock up.

Yes, today is Valentine's Day and as I said before, Captain is taking me to Mt. Vernon Vineyards for a Valentine's Day Cave Event.  Isn't it beautiful there?

Isn't it beautiful there?

The cave is directly behind and underneath the tasting room. There will be tasting tables all around and one or two of their barrels open for sampling, plus various and sundry bottles of their wines will flow freely. They do make an excellent barbera!

Did I mention that they even have dinners there? I would like to go if they weren't $110 per person. Ahh, maybe someday...

So after all of this bragging about my amazing Valentine's Day with Captain, how did I do? Let me tell you...

Breakfast today was just fine. Two strips of bacon and an egg.  Then I set about making a cake for Captain! It was a busy morning.

What do you think?
Although I didn't eat anything else the rest of the day at home, I did have to taste the batter and frosting as I made that bad boy. I mean, you can't cook without tasting, right?

We got to Mt. Vernon and it was a really beautiful evening. They had it outside and not in their cave. It was light hor d'oeuvres, 8 wines, and barrel tasting. I had a few mini quiches, 2 meatballs, and 3 mini hot dogs wrapped in bacon with bbq sauce. Only had 2 glasses of wine. We also met a lovely couple, Tara and Travis, who were gracious enough to share their table with us, and visited with them all evening. Of course the owners are always lovely about visiting, so it was good to see them as well!

We left about 8:30 and Captain was hunger (he's a big guy with a big appetite). Red Robin called his name as we drove thru Lincoln, so that's where we ended up.  He had a 'shroom burger and fries. I had 2 onion rings and he had the other 4.

Homeward bound and we had that cake waiting for us.  How was it?

Someone loved his cake! <3

At the end of the night, how do I think I did? Over all, not bad. Definitely deviated from my plan, and I can feel it. But I didn't take advantage of the situation and overdo, either.

Saturday is a new day. It's a journey I'm taking one day at a time. I hope your Valentine's Day was as good as ours!

Love,
Lin & Captain
